Watermelon Lime Refresher
It's that time of year again, the cherry blossoms have bloomed, the coconut oil has melted, and you find yourself wondering, like you do every time this year "Why did I think A/C wasn't important?" If you're anything like me, the warmer months are a bit bitter sweet. I love the sun and summer air, the warmer waters and the abundance of vegetation, but I can't stand the heat..
Last year the only time I had A/C was on my trip to NYC. It happened to be during a fiery heat wave so it was a blessing. It was this summer that I fell in love with coconut water. I drank copious amounts of it on this trip, and the summer months thereafter, because nothing else was helping to offset how much fluid I was losing in this heat. While water is still my #1 bae when it comes to hydration, coconut water also has a place in my heart.
While coconut water does contain naturally occurring sugars with little fibre (net sugar 3g for 8oz; for reference fresh apple juice has 81g for 6oz!!) I can dismiss that for all the other benefits it has. Coconut water is actually a significant source of minerals like sodium and potassium among others, both of which are important for maintaining normal cell transport which supplies energy to the body's cells. Essentially without this mechanism, the cells would not receive energy and would die. It's also super refreshing and an abundant source of magnesium, which is important for muscle function and relaxation. So you can enjoy your bevvy and feel super relaxed at the same time!
This little refresher has been my go to lately! I was introduced to this cool combo by an old roommate, who is an unapologetic watermelon fan. And might I add, the owner of a pretty sweet watermelon tattoo! I added some lime to the mix haven't looked back since! Heres how you make it:
So whether you're celebrating the long weekend here in Canada and want a tasty alcohol free bevvy, or just looking for something refreshing to cool you off, this delicious watermelon drink will satisfy your thirst!
